The editorial team reviewing pinned notes in a studio
About

Four people, one room above a print shop

Daxureli started in 2021 as a shared document between two friends who kept arguing about whether launch-week reviews meant anything. It became a website when a third writer pointed out that the document had grown longer than most magazines.

Today four of us work from a rented studio in Hoxton, east London. We publish one review a week, revisit older ones after a year, and keep the whole archive free to read. There is no company behind us, no investor, and nothing on this site is for sale.

Who does what

Every article carries a byline, and every byline belongs to someone in this room. We do not commission freelance work, so if a review is wrong it is one of these four who got it wrong.

Editor

Marianne Ableson

Handles the review schedule and the revisit queue. Plays mostly systems-driven games and has an unreasonable tolerance for spreadsheet interfaces. Writes the Friday digest.

Reviews

Idris Nwankwo

Our longest-form writer and the reason our role-playing coverage runs to several thousand words. Also maintains the five-year-old laptop we test on, mostly by refusing to let anyone replace it.

Accessibility

Sorcha Bright

Runs the accessibility pass on every game before drafting begins, and rewrote our checklist twice after readers told us it was missing things. Covers small-studio releases.

Technical

Tomasz Wierski

Responsible for hardware testing, frame-pacing notes and the crash logs we send to developers. Handles driving games and anything with a wheel attached to it.

What we will not do

Shorter than the list of things we do, and rather more load-bearing.

  • Publish a review we did not finish.
If we abandon a game we say we abandoned it, and explain at what point and why.
  • Attach a number to a game.
Three plain verdicts instead. Numbers invite aggregation, and aggregation flattens exactly the detail we spend weeks gathering.
  • Chase a launch window.
Being late and right is the whole editorial position. Several of our best-read pieces arrived months after release.
  • Sell anything.
No shop, no memberships, no affiliate links, no partner emails. The site is text and pictures, nothing more.

Where to find us

We share a studio floor with a letterpress workshop, which is why our post occasionally smells of ink. Visits are by arrangement only — there are just four desks.

Get in touch

Read one piece, then decide

The fastest way to work out whether Daxureli is for you is to read a full review rather than an about page. Start with the revisit entries — they show the desk changing its mind, which is the part we are proudest of.
